The pandemic has significantly altered our world to an almost unrecognizable point. The work in Growth Patterns at the heart is a reflection on the intricate threading our lives have with the world around us. As our world got smaller, so did my observations and the scale of my paintings. Spending most of my time indoors during the early days of COVID-19 provided me with a close and daily interaction with my space and the plants that filled it. I found myself looking with curiosity at the visible changes of patterns and colors each of these curious specimens displayed. As the world around me became even more uncertain, I was able to find solace in the small world of textures and colors that these leafy creatures, that were somehow still living there. best lives. Plants have often been seen in art as metaphors of decay and renewal, and as a symbol of our own mortality. Closer observation and time with plants provided me with a different perspective that filled me with hope and a renewed optimism for what may lie ahead.

This series was done in oil and acrylic paint on original dyed canvas.
